About Me

My work comprises of contemporary quilting, often in the form of wall hangings and 3D objects. Alongside this I also like to create useful, practical and decorative craft items for the home.

My craft pieces are inspired by both traditional and contemporary designs and techniques centred around a theme or an exciting colour or fabric.

My art pieces mainly focus on the design elements of line, shape and colour. I use a range of materials in my work, mainly solid coloured cotton fabrics and also satin and organza. I like to use variegated cotton threads in my pieces to add texture and lots of silky rayon thread for shimmer and shine. I sometimes print and paint fabrics with textile paint, to give my work an added dimension.

I love to play around and push the boundaries by incorporating plastic, metal and paper into my work, which can provide decoration or sometimes even create brand new fabrics.

I create my own templates and patterns and use a variety of techniques in the construction of my work, mainly traditional patchwork piecing and improvised piecing methods. I also like to experiment with fabric layering techniques, to create texture. I like to use a variety of techniques for surface decoration including hand couching and various forms of applique. To create unique finishes for my quilts I machine or hand quilt a variety of patterns.

Hi my name is Steph, creator of Tallulah Loops!

I first realised I loved sewing when I made a little girl's summer dress in needlecraft at school (showing my age now!) It was so much fun, I loved the fabrics, the buttons and the murmuring of the sewing machine and finally the finished product. I was so proud of myself!!

But as university and the start of my career came along, time was spent with the essential ‘getting on’ in life and that little dress was packed away and just became a happy memory.

But now 35 years later... the sewing machine is back along with my sewing mojo!!

My Style

Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to achieve City and Guilds qualifications in Textiles, Patchwork and Quilting (Levels 3 and 4) on a fantastic distance learning course with the School of Stitched Textiles. I learnt to design my own work and turn these creations into stitch. It's been amazing!

Now going forward, I’m excited to take my work further. I don’t know where my stitch journey will take me or what's next, but I can't wait to see where it takes me!

I love to find inspiration wherever I look – artwork, nature, architecture, everyday things… and I love to play around with abstract design ideas. I work with bright coloured fabrics and threads and experiment with all sorts of different recyclable materials too.

Really, my passion is just to create vibrant and eye-catching pieces of work, to bring a feeling of fun and joy to my audience. I hope you will follow along my journey with me!
